Professor M. Rezwan Khan, has taken the responsibility of the Chairman of Power Grid on 03 November 2024. He completed his B.Sc. in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) in 1980 and joined Dept. of EEE, BUET as a faculty member. He then obtained his M.Sc. and Ph.D. from University College London, UK in 1982 and 1986 respectively. He served BUET till 2005 and joined the United International University (UIU) as the Vice Chancellor. He served as the VC of UIU from 2005 -2017. He is presently serving as a Professor Emeritus and the Executive Director of Institute for Advanced Research (IAR) at the United International University (UIU), Bangladesh. IAR provides funds to the faculty members to conduct collaborative research with other institutions at home and abroad. Prof. Khan has been working on renewable energy, energy efficiency and energy harvesting for last 25 years. He has been serving as the Chairman of the Technical Standard Committee of Infrastructure Development Company Limited (IDCOL) since 2003, the largest financial organization in Bangladesh in Renewable energy sector. Under his technical guidance IDCOL financed more than 5 million solar home systems in Bangladesh, the largest solar home system program in the world. IDCOL presently funds solar irrigation systems, roof top solar for industries and large-scale grid integrated solar PV systems. So far the renewable energy related R&D is concerned, he has guided a number of nationally and internationally funded projects. He received the Bangladesh Academy of Sciences Gold Medal in 2005 for his outstanding contribution in the field of science and technology in Bangladesh. Prof. Khan is a senior Member of IEEE and a Distinguished Lecturer of IEEE- IAS. As a Distinguished Lecturer of IEEE he delivered lectures in USA, Singapore, Malaysia and India and his topic was ‘DC Power System: The Future of the Power System’.
Engineer Md. Rezaul Karim assumed the role of the 39th chairman of the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) on September 1, 2024. Before stepping into his new position, he served as BPDB's Member (Distribution). Md. Rezaul Karim, born on June 7, 1967, in Bogura, completed his Bachelor of Science in Electrical & Electronic Engineering from Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) in 1989. He began his career at BPDB on August 17, 1991, joining the Khulna Power Station as an Assistant Engineer. Over the years, he held various roles, including Sub-Divisional Engineer, Executive Engineer and Manager (Superintending Engineer) at the power station. In April 2018, he was appointed Deputy Project Director at the Maitry Super Thermal Power Plant. Additionally, he held senior positions at BPDB, such as Additional Chief Engineer and Chief Engineer (Distribution South). Throughout his career, Md. Rezaul Karim participated in training and professional programs across several countries, including the Czech Republic, China, the United Arab Emirates, India, the USA and Australia. Mr.& Mrs. Md. Rezaul Karim are proud parents of s son and a daughter.
Major General S M Zia-Ul-Azim, ndc, afwc, psc was commissioned in the Corps of Electrical and Mechanical Engineers from Bangladesh Military Academy on 21 December 1990. He belongs to 23rd BMA Long Course. The General completed B.Sc. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from BUET in 1997. He also completed Masters in Defence Studies, MBA in Finance and M.Sc. Engineering in Electrical Power. He further completed Masters in Security and Development Studies in 2020. He is a graduate of Defence Services Command & Staff College and National Defence College. In his service career, he is equipped with a balanced composition of command, staff and instructional assignments at different capacities in Bangladesh Army. In his unit service he has served 118, 115 and 137 Field Workshops in different appointments including Officer Commanding. He also served as Commanding Officer Production in 901 Central Workshop, Chief Inspector in Inspectorate of Vehicles and Engineering Equipment (IV&EE) and Inspectorate of Electronics and Instruments (IE&I). He has served in Army Headquarters, Electrical and Mechanical Engineers Directorate as staff officer. He was Instructor in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Centre and School (EMEC&S) and Attached Directing Staff in School of Infantry & Tactics (SI&T). He was Directing Staff in Armed Forces War Course Wing of National Defence College (NDC). He also served as Commandant in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Centre and School and Director of Electrical and Mechanical Engineers He has served in different United Nations Peacekeeping Missions. As contingent member he served in Siearra Leone. As Military observer he served in Liberia and Syria both for short durations. And as Staff Officer he served in the Force Headquarters in Mali. He has attended several courses at home and abroad. He has travelled different countries of the world such as USA, China, France, Germany, Turkey, Iran, Malaysia, Cambodia and United Arab Emirates. He has also performed Hazz and Umrah. On 05 Jan 2021 before joining in Electrical and Mechanical Engineers Directorate as Director of Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, he was the Course Member of National Defence Course 2020. He likes to travel with family and read books. He is married. His wife is a Banker. He is a proud father of one daughter and one son.
Md. Younus Mian is serving as Chief in Industry and Energy Division of Bangladesh Planning Commission. He is an Additional Secretary to the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. He was born in the District of Shariatpur. He completed his Secondary and Higher Secondary education from Shariatpur, BSc (Honours) and MSc in Statistics from the University of Dhaka. He also has a degree ‘Master of Population Sciences’ from the University of Dhaka. Md. Youns Mian served in different capacities in different Ministry/Division along with the different sectors of Bangladesh Planning Commission. He attended in many long course and short course training programs in country and abroad. He visited many countries of Asia, Europe, America and Australia.
Dr. Abdul Hasib Chowdhury has been teaching and carrying out research at the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) since 1992. He has over 25 years of experience in the Power Sector, particularly with Power Grid Operations, Planning and Optimization, Reliability, and Enhancement. He has extensive experience in Power Transmission and Distribution, Power System Stability and Security, Grid Reliability Analysis, System related studies (load flow analysis, fault analysis, transient stability analysis, contingency and security analysis, vulnerability analysis, frequency stability, voltage stability, and angular stability analysis; power quality analysis, etc.), Development of under-frequency load shedding and islanding scheme for BPS, Review of grid code and other major areas. He has first-hand experience accomplishing important projects, including: "Grid Failure Investigation Project," "Electromagnetic transients and stability studies to identify the root cause of blackout in the Bangladesh power system," "Impact study (of power plants/transmission lines/arc furnaces, etc.) on Bangladesh power system." He has worked with the Ministry of Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources of GoB and national organizations, including BPDB, PGCB, DPDC, DESCO, etc. He has worked with international organizations and bodies, including the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), EU Delegation in Bangladesh, GIZ, GOPA-International Energy Consultants GmbH, Ricardo Energy & Environment, ILO, etc. He was the Director of the Institute of Nuclear Power Engineering (INPE), Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) from September 2020 to February 2023. He has assumed the responsibilities of the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) since September 2024. Dr. Chowdhury has published more than 80 papers in peer-reviewed international journals and conferences and regularly participates in national and international Workshops/Seminars/Webinars as a resource person.
Mr. Md. Jahidul Islam, Joint Secretary, Power Division, Ministry of Power, Energy & Mineral Resources, belongs to Bangladesh Civil Service (Administration) Cadre of 21st batch. He obtained his MSS in Social Welfare in the First Class in 1998 from University of Dhaka, and M.Sc. in Project Management from the University of Bedfordshire, United Kingdom, 2014. He started his career as Assistant Commissioner and Magistrate in 2003. He also worked as Assistant Commissioner (Land); Upazilla Nirbahi Officer at Fulchhari and Birganj Upazila under Gaibandha and Dinajpur District respectively. He served as Estate Officer in Narayanganj City Corporation and also served as Secretary as additional duty in the same city corporation; he also worked as Deputy Director and Director at the Bangladesh Public Administration Training Centre (BPATC); also worked as Assistant Project Director in the Strengthening Bangladesh Public Administration Training Centre (Phase-III) Project and Additional Deputy Project Director and Deputy Project Director in the ‘Improving Public Services through Total Quality Management (IPS-TQM) Project of BPATC as additional duty. He also worked in the Ministry of Cultural Affairs. Later on he worked as Deputy Secretary in the Power Division, Ministry of Power, Energy & Mineral Resources. At present he is working as Joint Secretary in the Power Division of the Ministry of Power, Energy & Mineral Resources from 2 November 2022. In his bright career he was also involved to several research works. As such, Mr. Jahidul Islam Worked as Joint Research Project Director of the research work titled ‘A Study of Policy Makers Understanding of and Responses to Climate Change in Bangladesh’, funded by SBPATC (Phase-III) Project of Bangladesh Public Administration Training Centre (BPATC), 2015; he has done Research work on the title ‘The need for an effective holistic approach for successful flood disaster management with the execution of public projects in Bangladesh’ done as part of course work at University of Bedfordshire, UK, 2014; also worked as research team leader on the title ‘Analysis of Environment and Disaster Management Issues in Secondary Education: Bangladesh Perspective’ funded by National Academy for Educational Management, Ministry of Education, Government of Bangladesh, 2016; worked as Joint Research Director in the research work ‘Application of Learnings by the Participants of the Training Courses Conducted by RPATCs’ funded by BPATC, 2016; worked as Team Leader in the research work titled ‘A Study on the Effectiveness of National Integrity Strategy towards Promoting Good Governance at Ministry and Department Levels: Bangladesh Perspective’ funded by National Integrity Strategy Support Project, Cabinet Division, 2017. MD. ABDUR ROUF is a distinguished VAT expert of Bangladesh who has been working in the VAT management of Bangladesh for about 29 (twenty nine) years in the areas of training and education, research and publications, policy making and implementation, reforms and automation, answering queries, attending talk shows etc. Dr. Rouf has authored a VAT book in Bangla titled Shahaj Bhashai Notun VAT Ain (The New VAT Law in Easy Language) which is a popular reading in the VAT, accounts area of Bangladesh. Mr. Rouf obtained Bachelor and Master degrees in International Relations from the University of Dhaka, M.Phil. in Public Policy from National University and Ph.D. in Value Added Tax (VAT) Policy of Bangladesh from Jahangirnagar University. He has received advanced training from international institutions in Thailand, Malaysia, China, Vietnam, Singapore, the Philippines, Australia, Uganda, France, United Kingdom, Canada, Mexico, the Netherlands and some other countries.
